This Boojum Tree is growing among large boulders in Catavina central Baja Mexico. At well over 40ft tall this tree is around a few hundred years old. When it is young it has long branches covered with small leaves, but as it get older its branches become really small ( around 6-10 inches ) and the trunks rise vertically sometime with wild twisting shapes. These trees are endemic to Baja with only one small population on the main land of Mexico. They grow in the winter and shed their leaves in the summer heat. The leaves return during the winter rains. Nicknamed the Dr Seuss this tree it is federally protected by the Mexican government.
